Checker's tavern is owned and operated by P.J. & Pam Harrington who can be found nearly everyday working behind the bar serving it up to their many regular customers.
Racing
If you think Checker's tavern is just a race bar, you’re misinformed. Granted, Checker's tavern is known as the "The Race Place and More, Much More." Our love of racing obvious as soon as you drive into the checkered parking lot. And inside there is race memorabilia everywhere - even hanging from the ceiling!
As a founding supporter of the Hawkeye Downs Hard Charger Award Series, Checker's tavern supports the local racers. We've thrown our support into Dirt and Asphalt Racers and on occasion have racecar drivers serve as guest bartenders. Checker's tavern is "just up from the Downs" and as such is a great place to stop before or after any Hawkeye Downs race or event.
When it's race day stop in & enjoy truly "the coldest damn beer in town" while watching the live televised races on the 70 inch big screen or one of the 8 other TV's located throughout the establishment.
Blues Sunday
For almost as long as we've been open, Checkerss tavern has been an avid supporter of live blues with our Blues Sunday events on Sunday at 8p.m. Blue Sunday features local, regional and national touring blues bands. A few even come from Canada. If you can't make it there are many "Live at Checker's tavern" CD's available at the bar or at one of their web sites www.checkerstavern.com or www.bluesunday.com.
Karaoke
Karaoke is another weekly favorite at Checker's tavern, held every Saturday at 9p.m. "Checker’s Karaoke" features their own karaoke system and has become a big favorite among many Karaoke singers because of the unique "singer friendly" format of their system. Many contests. Giveaways and more fun is included at Checker's tavern during the weekly events there.

Checker's tavern features Miller Lite & MGD. We also serve liquor, wine and many brands of domestic and some imported beers.
If you are hungry and would like a bite to eat, Checker's tavern features great appetizers and other items that are baked in our Trak-Air super convection oven, instead of deep fat fried.
Checker's tavern is a clean, well-lit & comfortable place to stop. The staff is fast, fun and friendly. Stop out and CHECK it out for yourself. Once you do you will be going back for more....much more!
Checkers tavern is also expanding in 2006. Not a lot just enough to better serve our customers and such.
